Our Sloan-C Featured Certificate Program Graduate for March 2013 is Katherine Bankole-Medina.

Katherine Olukemi Bankole-Medina is a professor of history at Coppin State University specializing in African American History and African American Studies.

A veteran online teacher and moderator of History is a State of Mind blog, Katherine presented before and after revisions and improvements to her course World History to 1500 in her Certificate Program final portfolio presentation in February. Included were highlights of the impact of the nine-week foundations course and three elective workshops on her course design and teaching philosophy. Participants in the Sloan-C Certificate Program prepare an online teaching portfolio, redevelop course components, study quality aspects of course design, and incorporate consultations from peers and a mentor.

Reflecting on the program, Katherine wrote, "the foundation course and the three workshop electives have provided an incredible year of insight into online teaching and learning." Her three elective workshops while working on her certificate included Using Advanced Podcasting and Other Web 2.0 Multimedia in Your Curriculum, Pass the MERLOT: Encouraging Faculty to Enhance Their Classes with MERLOT, and Workload Management Strategies for Online Education.
