February 2013 Facilitator of the Month - Chris Thompson

Our Facilitator of the Month is Chris Thompson. This month he is facilitating Learning Environments: Mobile Apps. In 2012, Chris developed and facilitated Mobile App and Game Development for Sloan-C Institute, one of our first offerings featuring mobile learning.

Chris Thompson is the Associate Director of the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics, and Computing (CEISMC) at Georgia Tech. He has been involved in Instructional Technology and Evaluation projects for over 20 years. In the 1990s he pioneered the use of wearable computers for on-the-job technology assisted learning. When not busy teaching students how to design and develop Mobile App/Games Chris is helping to evaluate a statewide K-12 Handheld learning project. Chris is also currently exploring mobile app/game development as a pathway for K-12 students into CS-STEM learning.

Chris is known by his participants as a creative and engaging facilitator who offers a high level of support in an area often intimidating to online educators - mobile app and game development. One comment from his previous offering highlighted Chris' ability to make mobile learning development simple for non-coders, "The over all workshop was really great[and] helped me understand some other ways to develop apps than just from scratch… prototype{ing] a concept seems easier using some of the tools provided in the course." His expertise extends beyond offering resources and extends into his ability to speak from the experiences he has had testing tools in various settings. From super simple mobile work arounds all the way to entry level app programming, Chris helps participants find practical solutions and guides them in basic app development concepts.

Congratulations, Chris! We are proud to recognize you as our featured facilitator of the month.
