An authentic lab experience for online and hybrid learners

With the growing demand for flexible learning opportunities, many institutions are looking for ways to adapt traditional courses to meet student needs. Science is often the most difficult subject to address, but with the use of technology and engaging hands–on lab experiments that students can perform at home, science instruction online can extend the student experience beyond that of a traditional classroom. This presentation discusses student success and learning, as well as the obstacles and opportunities related to developing an online or hybrid science lab course. Valerie Houghton, Ph.D.

Dr. Houghton has been teaching chemistry and biology courses for over 10 years and has recently served as an adjunct faculty for Front Range Community College and Waldorf College. She has taught and designed programs utilizing best practices in distance education, traditional classrooms and the hybrid environment.
